Connect for Life
One day conference on living in harmony
with the environment and each other
Keynote speaker: Satish Kumar
Saturday 24th July, 10.30-4.00
Memorial Hall, Pickering
Satish Kumar, an internationally renowned speaker and editor of Resurgence Magazine, will speak as part of a special one-day conference, ‘Connect for Life’ being organised by Pickering LM. Satish teaches, lectures and runs workshops internationally on reverential ecology, holistic education and voluntary simplicity. Connect for Life will provide a unique opportunity for us to explore how we can build stronger connections in seeking new ways of living together and in harmony with our environment.
After early years of campaigning for land reform in India, and peace issues throughout the world, Satish settled in England in 1973, taking the Editorship of Resurgence magazine. He is the guiding spirit behind a number of ecological, spiritual and educational ventures in Britain. He founded the Small School in Hartland, a pioneering secondary school, and in 1991, Schumacher College, a residential international centre for the study of ecological and spiritual values, was founded, of which he is a Visiting Fellow. In 2008, Satish presented a highly acclaimed documentary on the BBC as part of the Natural World series. In the programme Satish introduced the Dartmoor scenes and sights close to his home that most inspire him, and contemplated the lessons they hold for humanity.
The conference will take place on Saturday July 24th at the Memorial Hall and will include Gill Coombs who will be walking around the UK, and who will deliver a workshop in the afternoon on the subject of living in harmony with the environment.
Growing numbers of people are feeling disconnected from their neighbours, communities and especially with our natural environment and the beautiful planet which is our home. There is seen to be an urgent need to help us reconnect and to return to a more natural life and balanced lifestyle which will enable us to recapture our innate sense of being part of everything and not just standing outside looking in.
Places for this conference are limited and admission to the event is by ticket which can be collected free of charge from the Tourist Information Centre in Pickering. Tickets, and further details, can also be obtained by emailing janiceevery@gmail.com, or telephoning Janice Every on 07929 939017.
